Today marks a historic day for equality and the rights of same-sex marriages across the nation.

DOMA (The Defense of Marriage Act) was struck down by the Supreme Court in a vote of 5-4. This act stated that marriage was defined as being between a man and a woman. Now, the definition of marriage is open to any two people.

Soon after DOMA was struck down, Prop 8 was repealed under the statement that it had “no standing.” It was struck down through a 5-4 majority and will be sent back to California, where state and federal judges have stated that same-sex marriage is a matter of equal rights.
