Only two hours after the Supreme Court struck down Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act. Texas seeks to suppress minority voters.

The state is advancing a voter ID law and a redistricting map that were blocked last year for discriminating against African American and Latino residents. Now that Section 4 has been removed, these measures can go into effect immediately, according to Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.

The Department of Justice no longer has any power to block these laws, even if its backed by the federal judges who see it as blatant discrimination.  Under the remaining sections of the Voting Rights Act, individuals are allowed to sue in order to kill these measures, but only after they have gone into effect and disenfranchised numerous Texans of color.
