Today, it was revealed that an abortion bill thought to have passed last night, failed to meet the correct legislative procedures and was not passed. It was revealed this morning that the bill had not been signed in time; since the vote took place at 12:03 am, it was past the deadline.

Senator Wendy Davis staged a filibuster that lasted more than 10 hours in an effort to keep the bill from passing and was victorious after the decision this morning.

The bill, if passed, would have banned abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, required abortion clinics to meet the same standards as hospital-style surgical centers and mandated that a doctor who performs abortions have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.
