This past weekend in the Bronx, DJ Beverly Bonds teamed up with BET for the taping of the 5th Annual Black Girls Rock Awards. The award show focuses on honoring both influential and successful black women in entertainment with an organization that’s main goal is to repair tainted images of African American Women in the media. Black Girls Rock also serves as a mentor program for young girls. Celebrities such as Raven Symone, Missy Elliot, Keke Palmer, Iyanla Vanzant & Actress Ruby Dee were honored at BET’s Black Girls Rock event. The nights festivities also included phenomenal performances from R&B beauties, Jill Scott, Monica, Fantasia, Keri Hilson, Keyshia Cole, Marsha Ambriusos and more. Black Girls Rock was founded by model, DJ and Hip-Hop visionary DJ Beverly Bonds and is a non-profit organization, completely dedicated to the growth of young women and girls. The organization works on getting young women between the ages of 12-17, on the right path. Through empowerment of the young women and the building of their self-esteem and self worth, the program hopes to change their goals and broaden their outlook on life. The 5th Annual Black Girls Rock airs November 7, 2010 on BET.
