The Grammy Awards, and pretty much any other “mainstream” (read white dominated) music awards show, tends to give black artists ghettoized accolades--“urban” “R&B” and “hip-hop” awards but never the “pop” awards – “Video of the Year” “Song of the Year,” “Album of the Year,” etc.

As the time has come again for us to honor those whose work in the fields of television, music, literature, film and social justice shone so brightly via the 48th Annual NAACP Image Awards, we’d like to take a moment to express our gratitude for those who made a tough year so much easier to survive.
