Are you a morning coffee person? Do you need that shot of caffeine in the morning so you don’t feel like the sky is falling on your head? Well, that coffee or tea that helps you get going could actually be doing nothing at all for you. A British study has found that people who ingest high levels of caffeine may actually build up a tolerance for it. Early morning caffeine guzzlers are only getting back to baseline levels of alertness (and nothing above) with there first morning cup.

“Although frequent consumers feel alerted by caffeine, especially by their morning tea, coffee, or other caffeine-containing drink, evidence suggests that this is actually merely the reversal of the fatiguing effects of acute caffeine withdrawal,” wrote the scientists, led by Peter Rogers of Bristol’s department of experimental psychology.

Caffeine lovers of the world, you might want to find another way to get that energy boost in the morning. How about a good healthy and hardy breakfast?
